Home Maintenance 101

June 28, 2012 By In Moisture Control Comments Off

All home owners have a little DIY in them and by following a few simple steps you can identify and prevent problems before they happen.

1)      When spills happen indoors, act quickly! Given the chance, wet carpets, floors, walls and other household areas can begin to grow mold within 48 hours so clean up spills quickly.

2)      Make sure your eaves troughs are cleaned and repaired regularly. When it rains heavily, is water flowing through properly?  If not, this is a clear sign they should be cleaned or repaired.

3)      Make sure the ground is sloped away from the building foundation so that water cannot collect or seep into your foundation.  An easy way to check is to wait for a heavy rain fall (or use your garden hose).  Which way does the water flow? Is it towards your house or away from your house?

Mold needs moisture and a food source to grow.  If you control the moisture, you control the mold.
